Frequently Asked Questions

This is ASTE's 12th annual digital media contest. Each year ASTE strives to make the contest enjoyable, provide quality prizes, scale the contest types, and make it easier for our membership to enter.

Here is a list of our most frequently asked questions.

Question

Are rubrics available so we can see how our entries will be judged?

Answer: Yes, this year we are providing rubrics. You can download a rubric for each contest here.

Question

Can I register with ASTE and upload my student's movies, tunes, podcasts, and photos for them?

Answer: ASTE encourages teachers to work with their students when developing movies, podcasts, tunes, and taking photographs. However, the contest system is not designed for a teacher to upload for their students.

ASTE encourages students to register, log-in, and upload with the assistance of a parent or legal guardian.

Question

When is the contest deadline?

Answer: The contest deadline is January 3oth, 2012 @ 12:00 mid-night.

Question

I had problems uploading my movie to the iDidaContest system. Is ASTE aware of this?

Answer: Please log-in at your earliest convenience and try again, if you did not have success the first time.

Question

I've lost my username and/or password. How can I retrieve that informaion?

Answer: ASTE's web-site has a "forgot password" feature that is tied to your e-mail address. Simply visit the log-in page, enter your e-mail address and ASTE will send you your log-in details. Your username is your e-mail address.

Question

I've registered and logged into ASTE's new contest web application to upload my student's videos. I've noticed there are only three spaces to upload our videos and no place to enter my student names. Am I missing something?

Answer: The iDidaContest registration system is designed to accept registrations for individuals. Students may work on videos, music, podcasts, or take photographs together, but only one member of that group need register with ASTE and upload the media. If that same entry wins, ASTE will contact the individual who has uploaded the media for additional details, so all participants may receive proper recognition.

Question

Can I email in my entry like in previous years?

Answer: ASTE will not accept any entries via email and/or through the postal service.

The exception to this rule is the iDidaDocumentary where movies may be too large to upload. If you are entering iDidaDocumentary please send your name, address, phone, email, and school along with your documentary on CD and/or DVD to the following address:

Standby Media
12110 Business #6-254
Eagle River, AK 99577

Question

What formats are accepted for movies, podcasts, music, and photographs?

Answer: The ASTE server has a finite storage space, so limits have been placed on file size and formats:
