Dr. Lynne Schrum
Saturday - Leadership Summit
Lynne Schrum is a Professor and Coordinator of Elementary and Secondary Education at George Mason University. Her research and teaching focus on teacher preparation, integration of technology in education, and educational research methods. She has written seven books and numerous articles on these topics, including co-authoring the book, Leading a 21st Century School: Harnessing Technology for Engagement and Achievement (Schrum and Levin, 2009). Lynne's most recent peer reviewed journal article is titled, Educational leadership and technology integration: An investigation into preparation, experiences, and roles. Journal of School Leadership Journal of School Leadership, 21, 241-261 (Schrum, Galizio, and Ledesma, 2011).
Dr. Schrum is past president of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) and is currently editor of the Journal of Research on Technology in Education (JRTE) (2002-2011).
Lynne received her M.A. in Elementary Education and Learning Disabilities from the University of Evansville, and in 1991, a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Oregon. Prior to her university work, she taught in elementary schools. Lynne has been faculty at SUNY Plattsburgh, University of Georgia, and University of Utah prior to current position at George Mason University.
Dr. Jason Ohler

Jason is a speaker, writer, teacher, researcher, and lifelong digital humanist who is well known for the passion, insight, and humor he brings to his presentations and writings. He is author of numerous articles, books, and teacher resources and continues to work directly with teachers, administrators, and students. Combining twenty-five years of experience in the educational technology field with an eye for the future, Ohler connects with people where they are, and helps them see their importance in the future development of living, learning, and working in the Digital Age. Although he is called a futurist, he considers himself a nowist, working nationally and internationally to help educators and the public use today's tools to create living environments that we are proud to call home.
Dr. Ohler is a Professor Emeritus, Educational Technology at the University of Alaska, where he was the Director and creator of the Masters in Educational Technology program for 20 years before becoming the President's Professor of Educational Technology and Distance Learning for 5 years. He earned his Ph.D. in Communication from Simon Fraser University, and he holds an Alaska State Teaching Certificate in Secondary Education.
Jason has earned many awards including but limited to WCET's Outstanding Work (WOW) award, Cable in the Classroom's Excellence in Education finalist, International Visual Literacy Association's Special Contributions Award, Apple's Distinguished Educator appointment, State of Alaska's Distinguished Career Citation, and Alaska Society for Technology in Education's President's Award.
Hall Davidson

Hall Davidson began teaching in 1971. He taught middle and high school English, mathematics, Spanish, and bilingual mathematics. He has been on the faculty of two colleges teaching technology for teacher credential candidates. He left the classroom to teach math on television in Los Angeles on an Emmy-winning program and spent 20 years at Los Angeles area PBS stations teaching, leading staff development, championing content creation by students and teachers, and ultimately producing television series on education, technology, parenting, and theater. He frequently contributes articles to national education publications and co-authored TechWorks, an internationally distributed classroom technology kit and with a team founded Kitzu.org, a resource of free online kits to encourage project-based learning with media. He was elected to the board of Computer-Using Educators where he served for six years.
For a dozen years Hall coordinated the nation’s oldest student media festival, the California Student Media Festival and has reviewed over a thousand student projects. He has keynoted major technology conferences and consulted for professional organizations and corporations and been on advisory boards and committees for organizations as diverse as the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and the California School Library Association. He has two children who attended Los Angeles public schools, one of whom graduated from UCSC and is preparing for graduate work in education at the University of Southern California. He was twice re-elected as site chairperson at the local elementary school where the categorical budget required his signature.
Hall joined Discovery Education in 2005 where he blogs, creates webinars, works in educational partnerships and serves as director of Global Learning Initiatives. He has spoken about technology and education to audiences around the world.
Richard Gerver - Keynote

Richard Gerver has been described as one of the most inspirational leaders of his generation. He argues however, that great leadership is about serving the needs of the people that work for you and rely upon you. The three core principles that underpin Gerver’s philosophy are communication, empowerment and impact.
Gerver began his working life as an actor who worked as an advertising copywriter to make ends meet. He began a teaching career in 1992 and rose through the ranks fast being identified by the school’s inspectorate in 1997 as one of the most outstanding teachers in the country. By 2005, he had won the prestigious “School Head Teacher of the Year Award” at the British National Teaching Awards for his work in leading a school on the brink of closure to becoming one of the most innovative in the world. Gerver developed his organizational philosophy of living, learning and laughing which reached his full development during his time as Head Teacher.
Gerver works closely with Sir Ken Robinson on developing the awareness of human potential and creativity and features in Robinson’s best-selling book, The Element: How Finding Your Passion Changes Everything. He also works as an author and media commentator and is a regular contributor in the British print media; writing for The Times and The Daily Telegraph, as well as on the BBC—most recently on breakfast television and The Politics Show.
Gerver’s global best-selling book Creating Tomorrow's Schools Today (Dec. 2009) deals with education transformation, his second, due by the end of 2012, deals with human capacity and leading change.
Dr. Trina Davis - Keynote

Dr. Dr. Davis is an Assistant Professor at Texas A+M University in the Department of Teaching, Learning, and Culture. She was President of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) from 2007 to 2009, and has extensive experience in educational technology and mathematics. Dr. Davis currently teaches graduate courses that focus on the evaluation and implementation of electronic learning materials, teaching strategies: patterns of learning, and professional development strategies for teachers.
Dr. Davis has provided leadership on innovative technology programs in the College of Education and Human Development at Texas A+M University since 1997, including a program recently funded by the National Science Foundation ($2.8M), "Preservice Teachers' Knowledge for Teaching Algebra for Equity in the Middle Grades." She is the Co-Director of Glasscock Island (in Second Life) and serves as one of the Co-PI's on the grant.
Dr. Davis earned her Ph.D. from Texas A+M University in the area of Curriculum and Instruction - Educational Technology. Her research includes statewide school technology studies as well as investigations related to teaching and learning in online and 3-D virtual environments. She also honored to receive a national Presidential Service Award at the highest level (Gold) in 2009.
She continues to champion issues related to digital equity.
Dr. Enid Silverstein

Dr. Enid Silverstein’s success stems from her creative, action oriented thinking. A connectivist and long-time proponent of 21st century learning, Dr. Silverstein has been a cultivator of big ideas and an inspirational leader. Over a forty year career that has spanned a variety of geographical areas and experiences, Dr. Silverstein served as a classroom teacher, principal and district-wide curriculum administrator. She remains a student-at-heart and committed to the idea that “every facet of a plan must have the DNA of the final dream within it”. Her skills in making diverse connections, along with her interest in communities of practice and cultural responsiveness earned her a national curriculum leadership award from the Council of Great City Schools. She currently resides in Portland, Oregon.
Hilary Goldmann

Hilary Goldmann is the Director of Government Affairs at the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). She has more than 20 years of public policy experience. Hilary is a recognized leader in the education association and corporate communities. She is responsible for developing and executing ISTE's federal and state public policy agenda and mobilizing its grassroots efforts. Before joining ISTE in July 2005, Hilary led the Higher Education Information Technology Alliance, a coalition of 10 U.S. higher education and library associations established to promote the higher education and library community's interests in federal information technology policy.
Hilary also has served as the Director of Congressional Relations at the American Association of State Colleges and Universities and got her public policy start as an aide to former U.S. Senator Howard Metzenbaum. She is a graduate of the State University of New York at Binghamton.
Frederick Lane

Frederick Lane is a nationally-recognized expert on privacy and the impact of emerging technologies on society. He is an author, attorney, educational consultant, expert witness, and lecturer who has appeared as guest on a variety of national media programs, including: Comedy Central's "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart"; ABC's "Nightline" and "Good Morning America Weekend"; CBS's "60 Minutes" and "Sunday Morning with Charles Osgood"; NBC's "Today Show" and "Weekend Today"; and numerous local and national radio programs.
Frederick has written six books, including most recently Cybertraps for the Young and American Privacy: The Four-Hundred-Year History of Our Most Contested Right. His lectures cover topics ranging from First Amendment issues to student safety and privacy in the digital age. Frederick has spoken at the National School Boards Association annual conference four times (most recently in April 2011), and has presented at colleges, universities, and school districts across the country.
He graduated from Amherst College in 1985 with a degree in classics and American studies, and from Boston College Law School in 1988. The passage of the Communications Decency Act in 1996 led Frederick to research the legislative and media response to the rise of the online adult industry, and resulted in a book called Obscene Profits: The Entrepreneurs of Pornography in the Cyber Age (Routledge 2000). Since then, he has published five additional books, including: The Naked Employee: How Technology Is Compromising Workplace Privacy (Amacom 2003); The Decency Wars: The Campaign to Cleanse American Culture (Prometheus Books 2007); The Court and the Cross: The Religious Right's Crusade to Reshape the Supreme Court (Beacon Press 2008); American Privacy: The 400-Year-History of Our Most Contested Right (Beacon Press 2010); and CyberTraps for the Young (NTI Upstream 2011).

Jim Sill

After working in the TV/Video business, Jim took his love for making video and moved it to the classroom where he is now in his seventh year of teaching video production. Jim currently teaches at El Diamante High School (EDHS) in Visalia, CA where they feature a bi-weekly television show for students and staff. The EDHS Advanced Video class is an Apple Certified Training Center for Education. Students study to take the Apple Certified Pro Certification Exam in Final Cut Pro, Level One.
As an Apple Distinguished Educator, Google Certified Teacher, Google Apps EDU Certified Trainer and Apple Certified Trainer, Jim leads professional development workshops across the United States and Canada. In 2009, he was recognized as Computer Using Educator's (CUE) Outstanding Teacher and his 2010 Google for Video session was recognized as Best of CUE.
Some of the topics that Jim is passionate about include Using Video for Social Change, Cinematic Narrative Techniques, Encouraging a Creative Student, Google in the Classroom and much more.
David S. Byer

David Byer is the Senior Manager of Education Leadership and Policy who manages education policy and strategic relations for Apple. David joined the company in 2000 after serving as executive director of the Web-based Education Commission, a bipartisan, U.S. congressional commission focused on improving the Internet for learning.
David previously was vice president of government affairs for the Software and Information Industry Association, and held advocacy positions with the American Society for Training and Development, National School Boards Association, and National Association of College and University Business Officers. He began his career on Capitol Hill as an assistant to U.S. Sen. Claiborne Pell of Rhode Island.
David serves on the board of the National Coalition for Technology in Education and Training, chairs the Partnership for 21st Century Skills National Policy Task Force and International Society for Technology in Education’s Public Policy Committee, and is a trustee of the Association for Career and Technical Education Foundation. He holds BA and MBA degrees from George Washington University.
Dr. L. Michael Golden

Dr. L. Michael Golden is a proven education leader committed to education reform. He is currently CEO, Next Generation Learning at Educurious Partners, a start-up education company dedicated to addressing some of today’s most perplexing challenges in education by creating next-generation solutions. He also provides management consulting and advisory services to large education companies, institutions and government entities.
He was Corporate Vice President, Education at Microsoft Corporation, where he led the development and execution of Microsoft’s efforts in education across the company and ran the company’s global education business division. Prior to that, Dr. Golden was Senior Vice President, Strategic Planning and Marketing at Pearson Education. In that role, Dr. Golden led the planning and administrative functions for Pearson’s US education division, including strategy, marketing, business development, research, administration and leadership.
Prior to that, Dr. Golden was Deputy Secretary, Pennsylvania Department of Education, where he set strategy, policy, programs, and legislation for over two million pK-12, Postsecondary and Higher Education students and developed systems, professional development and directed funding to make schools more effective and efficient. Golden's accomplishments include formulating and implementing statewide education technology policies and initiatives. He envisioned and rolled out groundbreaking $250 million reforms to embed student-centered, inquiry-based, data-driven pedagogy in Pennsylvania's schools through connected classrooms, one-to-one computing environments and robust professional development for teachers and administrators.
Dr. Golden has a doctorate in Education Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education, an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA from Williams College.
