Pete Vraspir has been in education for 17 years. He started as a middle and high school math, science and technology teacher in the state of Washington. In 1998 he earned a masters degree in Educational Technology and worked to start a pilot 1:1 laptop program in a middle school outside Seattle. He then moved on to manage a network for a smaller district in addition to teaching full-time. He taught adult computer classes at a local community college. In 2004 he moved to Alaska to become the Chief Information Officer and director of the state's first, sustainable 1:1 laptop program for the Denali Borough School District.
In January of 2007 he joined the Alaska Apple Professional Development team to travel the state delivering professional development to educators and students. Along with 3 other Apple contractors, the team delivers training to the state's 18 Consortium for Digital Learning districts. He does this on a part-time basis, juggling it with his Denali job.
Pete's passion is teaching others how to integrate technology into curriculum and learning. In May, 2007 he earned both his Type B (administrative) certificate and masters in Educational Leadership and hopes to use it in district leadership positions to further technology in education.
Pete lives in Denali Borough near the park entrance with his wife Lynn of 13 years and their 4-year-old daughter, Sasha. They love interior Alaska and enjoy hobbies like cross-country skiing, snowmachining, camping, hunting and fishing.
