ASTE21 GoGlobal invites you to Engage the World with Alaska World Affairs Council Virtual Field Trips

ASTE has adopted the “Go Global” theme for this year’s conference, and this theme is a message to bring out the best of the new access we as educators are embracing, as a necessity, in 2020 and beyond. As you write your lesson plans look for ways to engage your students with the world.  The Alaska World Affairs Council is offering access to educational programs that keep pace with the events and issues that shape our futures.

Earlier this year the World Affairs council suspended-in-person programming, and quickly did the switch-up to virtual.  With this change, they are able to offer FREE virtual field trips for your students.

These virtual field trips give students the chance to learn from world-renowned speakers and participate in a Q&A session following the program. AKWorld virtual field trips are a great way to help students:

·    gain the skills necessary to navigate a complex, diverse, and increasingly interdependent world,
·    encourage informed and independent thinking about international affairs, and
·    promote a critical understanding of important issues in a globalized world as they affect the nation and this region.

Last week they kicked off the series with Trekking the Climate Change Crisis with Zach Brown.

This Friday, October 2nd,  they will feature Yong Zhao (2015 ASTE Keynote speaker) The Future of Education in a Post-pandemic World.

Some future programs:

ALASKA TO TIMBUKTU: MYTH AND REALITY FROM FAR AWAY PLACES
DELIVERING THE WORLD: FEDEX AND ANCHORAGE’S BUSY CARGO HUB
THE DANCE OF PEACE: SOUTH KOREA AND ALASKA REDUCING TENSIONS AND PROMPTING PEACE
ALASKA NATIVE PERSPECTIVES OF AN EVOLVING ARCTIC ENVIRONMENT

They have made registration easy with a streamlined registration process. Whether these programs are used to enhance curriculum or offered as an extracurricular activity, ASTE and World Affairs Council hope you can expand the world of your students!
