Carlyn Walker

President-Elect

Carlyn Walker has long been an early adopter of innovation always in the most committed effort to reach students where they are. She integrates technology purposefully and intentionally to connect with her students. Whether it is the flexibility and collaboration of Google Docs, leveraging social media or her Canvas courses designed for personalized learning paths, Carlyn fosters deeply impactful practices that are foundational to the relationships she builds with students.

Always balancing the tech with the hands-on, Carlyn piloted both the culinary program and maker lab programs along with a foundational Digital Literacy course at Seward Middle School where she has collaborated with other teachers through her leadership roles on the Personalized Learning Leadership Team and as a Personalized Learning Champ. She continually trains others both in her district and has presented at ASTE as well. Carlyn has inspired staff and students alike to experiment with creativity in technology, student-driven inquiry and instructional design to streamline the student experience. These skills make her uniquely qualified to lead an organization that’s purpose is the technological instruction of students.

Currently, she serves at her school and her district through the science curriculum committee and provides professional development. She serves the state by contributing to forums like #AKEDCHAT and other Twitter professional development groups. She was recognized in 2018 as a BP Teacher of Excellence and in 2020 as the ASTE Teacher of the Year. She had been previously elected in 2021 as ASTE President-Elect and is running to fulfill her term during the 2024 ASTE Conference. After having taught and expanded for 15 years in her practice for the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District, she is ready to assume a leadership role by serving on the ASTE Board as the President-Elect.
