Nathan is originally from Saint George, Utah, and has had a variety of jobs and paths that led him to teaching in Alaska. He joined the Army while still in high school and left for basic training right after graduation. He served in the National Guard for nine years while also volunteering for his church for two years, pursuing an engineering degree, and taking care of his father as a CNA. His deployment to Iraq in 2010 changed his course dramatically. Deciding to focus more on what makes him happy, he ended his military career and focused on his education path to become a teacher.
After teaching high school in Phoenix, Arizona, for three scorching years, he decided to flip climates in 2017 and enjoy the freezing temperatures of Lake and Peninsula School District from his cozy classroom while taking in the beautiful summers Alaska has to offer. Best decision so far.
He achieved his master’s in Educational Leadership from UAS in 2020 and has been enjoying supporting teachers and students as the EdTech coordinator for LPSD since 2022.
